MIGRATION SENSATION’ CARAVAN INFO
Two caravan trips will be offered to youth in the summer of 2003 as part of Monarch Migration Project West (MMPWest). These trips will complement and enhance the spring activities and projects of MMPWest.

WHAT: The caravan trips will provide youth with the opportunity to participate in service-learning beyond their community. They will collaborate with other youth from along the west coast on projects to improve the Monarch butterfly’s migratory route. A maximum of 10 students may participate per trip, so space is limited. They will be traveling with MMPWest staff.

WHEN: The caravans will take place during the summer to allow more youth to participate. The first MMPWest caravan is scheduled for July 6-13, 2003 (Session 1). The second is scheduled for August 17-23, 2003 (Session 2).

WHO: The caravans are open to both project participants* and the general public. Youth should be between the ages of 14-18 years old and have shown interest in Monarch butterfly issues. MMPWest project participants will have the opportunity to apply prior to the general public.

WHERE: The caravans will leave from Seattle, WA. Youth will need to provide their own transportation to and from Seattle if necessary. The caravans will travel to a variety of destinations ranging from eastern Washington/Oregon to California. The final itinerary is not available at this time.

COST: Final cost per participant is as follows: Session 1 (July 6-13, 2003) $595; Session 2 (August 17-23, 2003) $520. Financial aid is available for those who exhibit need and qualify. To receive a financial aid packet please contact us. The financial aid form must be submitted with the application. We also encourage youth to receive sponsorship from their community.

HOW: All participants will be required to complete a short application. Applications for current project participants will be accepted beginning April 14, 2003. Applications for all others will be accepted beginning May 1, 2003. All applications are due no later than May 31, 2003. Apply early as there are limited spots per trip.

Applications can be downloaded here. You will need Adobe Acrobat to open this file or by contacting us directly.

* ‘project participants’ refers to youth who have been working on an MMPWest funded project.
